Lawsuits

1 Cor. 6:1-11

Paul developed yet another area that revealed the true spirituality of the Corinthians' hearts: lawsuits. How could believers who have the Sprint of God within them and who are destined to judge with Jesus one day, feel the need to take their legal disputes before heathen courts and heathen judges? So shameful! Paul asked pointedly if there was not anyone among them wise enough to judge between them. To have lawsuits within the body of believers is already a defeat. Why not suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? What a word to a culture that is intent upon suing one another! Are believers willing to absorb the wrong done to them and follow the example of Christ who when He was reviled answered not a word in return. When He suffered, He did not threaten in return. Our actions speak volumes about the condition of our hearts.

These believers as well as believers today have forgotten that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, that includes the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, and swindlers. Such were some of us! But the difference is we are washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of Jesus. We  are sinners saved by grace with the emphasis on saved. We have been transformed by the renewing of our minds that we might prove what the will of God is! We have been made new so that we present our members to God as instruments of righteousness not as instruments of the flesh. If our behavior is indistinguishable from the world, perhaps we are not truly saved. Perhaps we have not truly named the name of Jesus.

Father,
Through Your grace and strength help my actions to match my words. Help me to show grace to others not just in legal matters but in every area of my life.
In Jesus name,
Amen
