2 Pet. 2: 9-10
...then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority.
False teachers, those who pervert the gospel of Jesus and tread underfoot the glory of God, will have the judgment of God! What exactly do false teachers teach? Their arena includes destructive heresies, denying the Master, sensuality, blasphemers of the way of God, exploiters using false words. Those phrases sound horrible, but their end will be much worse. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. God will have the final word!
Peter goes on to explain that God's judgment should never be doubted. If he did not spare the sinning angels but cast them out committing them to chains of darkness to be kept for the judgment day, and if he didn't spare the world in Noah's day, but preserved Noah and His family, and if he turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, but rescued Lot, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly and judge the ungodly. For an example, we can look to Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities were reduced to ashes and extinction. His word and His plan with not be thwarted.
Father,
This is an encouragement to me. As I look at my world, I do see the unrighteous getting free rein. It seems as if the blasphemy against Your words will not stop, but I know that You will return and call me home to You. What a hope You have given me.
In Jesus name,
Amen
