Warning

2 Pet. 2:26-27
I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie--just as it has taught you, abide in Him.

John tries to warn the believers about antichrists who will appear in the end times [many]. The people who had left them are not of them but are antichrists, that in itself is confusing. These people used to be one of them. Who does one believe? There should be no confusion. Those who remained have been anointed by the Holy One and live in the realm of truth and knowledge. The antichrists deny both the Father and the Son.

John exhorts them to keep what they were taught from the beginning and to abide in this teaching. If they do, then they too will abide in the Son and in the Father.  And this is the promise Jesus made to us, eternal life. John's purpose is to undo the confusion caused by these false teachers. Believers must know that the anointing they received will abide just as He abides in you. There is no need for anyone else to teach you. His anointing will teach you everything about the Truth. It is no lie! Remember abide in Him.

When I think of abiding, I think of Jn 15. We are clean by the word that Jesus spoke to us. So then we must abide in Him [live, dwell, continue in a daily, personal relationship with Him] as He abides in us. This is so important that we must safeguard it constantly. Why? Because apart from Him, we can do nothing. Safety comes in abiding.

Father,
Teach me how to abide more and more each day. Help me to shut the door to wall that is false.
In Jesus name,
Amen
