Lk. 3:21-22
Now when all the people had been baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, 'You are my beloved Son, with You I am well pleased.
Like man, Jesus was baptized as well. In this act He identified with Israel's sin, an act that would foreshadow the cross. As the heavens opened, God visibly demonstrated His presence with the Beloved Son. Likewise, the Spirit descended on Him in a visible form. After which, the Father's voice was heard to say, 'You are my beloved Son, with You I am well pleased. All these events seem to be visible for man to see so that he might realize that this man Jesus was also the Son of God. Luke then developed the genealogy of Jesus taking him all the way back to son of Adam, and finally, Son of God. Clearly, Luke has shown that Jesus was the God man, a Savior who identified with the sins of man and who was born of man, yet at the same time, the Son of God. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Father,
I praise Your name for sending Your Son to be my Savior and Redeemer. Thank You Jesus for enduring such humiliation and for enduring the bonds of flesh so that You might be my sympathetic high priest.
In Jesus name,
Amen
