Apples of Gold

Prov. 25:11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.

The Bible has so much to say about words. I would think that if a word's value was gold and silver, we would be more careful about what we are saying, but in our culture it is the reverse. We often spout off without thinking at all. We often spew words that can be categorized as putting our foot in our mouth, or even creating enemies. Just imagine if every word had a certain value, and every time we said destructible things, hot words of confrontation, or words that we often regret, then  that word would lose some value. How long would it take us to be in the red? Our word account would be bankrupt, but since it is not that way we carry on in the same way. Such shame! We have the new nature. Christ indwells us as does His Spirit. So what is the problem? Is life going so fast that we don't have time to think before we speak? Are we so overloaded with the world's good activities that we don't have time to think. Good words rarely come when life is a rush.

Father,
Please teach me to think before I speak. Take my expectations and transform them into words of gold. Help me be Your words to others.
In Jesus name,
Amen
