Faith/Works

James 2:22
You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed with his works.

The 'him' aforementioned was referring to Abraham where he offered his son Isaac, the son of the promise. He fully believed that God would work a miracle to provide a substitute or bring Isaac back to life. Abraham's life was a walk of faith, and we are all his offspring. But this faith is not a lazy or lackadaisical faith. It is a faith that finds fulfillment in action.

So the example of Abraham is to help us in understanding how the works/faith scenario works out. Just as Abraham had ultimate faith in his God, faith to find a new homeland, faith to have a child when he and his wife were well past child bearing years, and now faith to place the child of the promise on the altar. He believed before he saw the end result! But because his faith was strong, he traveled and did what God asked him to do. His walk with God was so precious that it propelled his actions. Because of all this, he was called the friend of God. ...and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness-- and he was called the friend of God. [v. 23] What a relationship they had!

Father,
Strengthen my faith as I walk everyday. Help me to see You in all that I say and do. I want to be Your friend too. Help me.
In Jesus name,
Amen
