Husbands Love your Wives

Eph. 5:33
However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Marriage must follow the example of Christ and the church. As Christ loved the church, so should the husband love his wife. What kind of love characterized Christ and the church?
  • Sacrificial-loved her and gave Himself for her,
  • Purposeful- so that He might sanctify her,
  • Humble Servant- having cleansed her by the washing of  water with the Word
  • Future Oriented-So that He might present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing,?
  • Transformational- That she might be holy and without blemish.
In the same way, husbands should love their wives...
  • Sacrificial- Husbands love their wives as their own bodies. For no one ever hated his own flesh...
  • Purposeful-but nourishes and cherishes it,
  • Humble Servant- Just as Christ does the church, for we are members of His body.
  • Future Oriented- Therefore a man should leave his father and mothers and hold fast to his wife,
  • Transformational-and the two shall become one flesh.
This mystery is profound. Certainly, not only is it visible in the marriage relationship, but it is also for eternity in Christ and the church. The final word is: husbands love your wives. But it doesn't stop there. and let the wife see that she respect her husband. Respect is the response to such love as this!

Father,
Teach me a respectful heart toward my husband and the love he has for me. Give me a heart that is close to You.
In Jesus name,
Amen
