The Eye of the Lord

Ps. 33:18-19
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His steadfast love.

What is the eye of the Lord? What does this image connote? II Chron. 16:9 says For the eyes of the Lord run to and from throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward Him. God's eye is not limited to location. He constantly searches the earth for the express purpose of giving support to the blameless. Who could possibly be blameless? Only those who are washed int the blood and covered with the righteousness of Christ. In this reference and in Ps. 33 the eyes of God give hope and support, to tell believers that they are not alone wherever they are. God constantly sees and supports! I Pet. 3:12 says For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer... God's eyes are also focused on those He has chosen to be His children, those who are righteous because of the blood of Christ. He hears our prayers, our cries for help and for growth. Those with blameless hearts and righteous lives are the same group of people as those who fear Him [Ps. 33]. All three of these terms qualify the child of God. Out of this personal relationship with God believers have hope, hope in his steadfast love because The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness. His eyes deliver our souls from death and keep us alive in famine. His vision extends from inception to our final hour on this earth. In famine and in plenty, nothing distracts the eyes of the Lord from their watchful care over His children. Like the psalmist I must respond with, For my heart is glad in Him, because I trust in His holy name. Let Your steadfast love; O Lord, be upon me, even as I hope in You.

Father,
Thank You for Your watchful care, for Your eyes that know my every need, for Your eyes that respond and support, and for Your eyes that are with me even in death.
In Jesus name,
Amen
