Lying Spirit

II Chron. 18:22
"Now therefore behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets. The Lord has declared disaster concerning you."

God wanted to entice Ahab into battle, the battle where he would die. To bring this about he used a lying spirit in the mouths of Ahab's prophets, that is, all the prophets of Israel but one. It is an interesting idea that God, who was all powerful and could have enticed Ahab into battle many different ways, used a lying spirit. It definitely shows that all things are the servants of God even the false prophets and a lying spirit. Since Ahab had always worshipped false gods, it seems fitting that he would be deceived by the words of his own false prophets.

Also there is the irony of Micaiah telling the truth which he had a reputation for doing. Even though Ahab told him specifically to tell the truth which Micaiah did, Ahab rejected his message as falsehood. He was unable to recognize the truth from God, and it brought about his death. So in order to bring about His will, God allowed the false words of false prophets to be believed and the true words of a true prophet to be rejected. Truly, all things are the servants of God!

Father,
Help me to see and know Your truth as it is revealed in Your words. Teach me to see Your hand in the details of life.
In Jesus name,
Amen
