Ps. 138

Ps. 138:8
"The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of Your hands."

The psalmist is sure of God's plan and purpose being fulfilled in his life. He knows God's steadfast love endures forever; likewise, His plan endures forever. The psalmist is also sure because of what he has experienced in his life.
  • On the day David called, God answered. His communication with God was constant and immediate.
  • When David walked in the midst of trouble, God delivered him. God was his refuge, fortress, rock, and deliverer.
  • God stretched out His hand over David's enemies, and there were many. David's life was one of constant fleeing, running, and hiding.
God was a reality to David. David knew God personally and saw His mighty hand work visibly in his life, but he also knew the character of his God.
  • He was unchanging in plan and purpose.
  • His steadfast love and faithfulness were manifest in His life personally.
  • He was worthy of David's whole-hearted praise.
  • He was a God of holiness.
  • He spoke words that elicited praise from the kings of the earth.
  • He is high yet regards the lowly.
  • He is a God of great glory.
Because of all this David's response was one of trust and praise. His mouth was filled with singing as he humbly bowed in His temple. His life was definitely one that would radiate confidence in God. How would I characterize my personal relationship with God?  Have I seen His hand at work practically in my life? Do I make His character part of my praise to Him?

Father,
Thank You for being the God that You are, for Your steadfast love and faithfulness, for your ever sure plan and purpose, and for your great deliverances.
In Jesus name,
Amen
